CHERD-Africa understands the essence of modern data management in the context of efficient healthcare delivery and research purposes. Data management in the past has focused on paper-based medical records. In many healthcare institutions, patient records are increasingly occupying spaces that can be used to support patient care. The challenges, such as difficulty in locating patient folders, coupled with the fact that medical staff have to use productive hours to search for folders, require a second look. Technology is therefore required for easy access to previous patient charts in a bid to ensure continual care and access to the patient’s medical history in case of emergencies. Also, credible data is required for safe and secure storage for quality health care delivery and research purposes. In this current age, there is a paradigm shift toward the use of electronic media using modern techniques such as Oracle, InForm, REDCap, and mySQL for data storage.

At CHERD-Africa, we design and implement quality control, data cleaning, data validation, integrity checking, and robust data security systems and procedures for existing and new data to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data. Data analysis in health systems research, such as tests of associations, binomial, and Multinomial logistic regression, and geospatial analysis, is done. Business analysis, such as developing business models and business data analysis using moderation and mediation analytical skills, and qualitative data analysis are done through focus coding with grounded theory using NVIVO software. The data analysis department is led by Isaac Nyanor, an experienced data analyst with a track record of managing international research data in ground breaking clinical studies such as the Multiple Micronutrient Studies by the University of Utah, Sickle Pan African Research, among others.
